Questions Answered: For protection, is it better to carry a gun or pepper spray?

Guns and Firearms: For protection, is it better to carry a gun or pepper spray?

If it’s legal in your area, then both.
Some situations would be solved by the threat of pepper spray, some by its deployment.  Some situations may require the threat of a firearm, and – as much as we hate to admit – some situations do require the use of the gun for personal protection.

It would be a shame to use a gun where pepper spray would have been effective.  It would be just as regrettable to only have pepper spray where a gun was necessary.

Unfortunately, the gun option isn’t really possible here in Canada – unless you’re at home or out hunting.  Even then, you would still be treated like a criminal.

Vacation Reading: George Orwell’s 1984

Tomorrow I am heading out on Vacation for a little over a week.

Surviving the rainy Vancouver winter typically means getting a week or two of sunshine in each year.

I am not a fan of laying on the beach for hours, just soaking up the sun.  But I sure can snorkel and crash waves for hours on end.  Then I like to come back to the shade, put on the sunglass, and get out the Kindle to read a book.  I find that I can go through a couple Kindle books, some audioBooks, podcasts, and movies this way.

One of the books I’ve been meaning to read lately is George Orwell’s 1984.  Like many, I read this back in highschool.  Also like many, you don’t learn all of the lessons in this book as a teenager – though some of the topics do stay with you.

Canadian Thanksgiving

My Thoughts on Canadian Thanksgiving

As we get deeper into the fall season every year, we come across the Thanksgiving holiday.

It’s such a great tradition; one that we must keep gong for future generations too.

Some think that it is a celebration of food – and that’s not exactly wrong.  But I feel there’s a lot more to it than that.

Other’s think it is a celebration of family – and again, this isn’t exactly wrong.

Can we have Personal Liberty in Canada?

Is it even possible to have personal liberty in Canada?

Mr.Nobody was kind enough to leave the following comment on my post about a day at the shooting range:

“A firearm (or many) is pretty much a prerequisite to self-reliance and personal liberty.  Which is why you can’t and don’t really have either in Canada.”

So that brings up the question, is it even possible to have personal liberty in Canada?  Can we really be free?

Ted Nugent – The Motor City Madman

I grew up listening to Ted Nugent, Metallica, AC/DC, Guns’n’Roses, and Aerosmith.

Being a teenager in the 1990s, I think I was the last of the generation to do so too.

However, I had an extra special bonus growing up in southwestern Ontario: I was in radio reception to Detroit and listened to ZRock 102.7, which later became ‘The Bear’.  Ted Nugent was a morning host for what seemed like a couple of years, and I enjoyed listening to him getting ready for school.

Weekend Podcast Episodes Oct 5

Last weekend I recommended some podcast episodes for you to listen to.

I want to do that again this weekend.  I listen to so many good ones that I want to share.

These are a few of the best episodes I listened to this past week:

As I said last week, I am a real podcast junkie.  I quite often have one on the go.

I will keep recommending episodes as I hear good ones, mostly relating to health, wealth, independence, survival, and preparedness.

Did you listen to any good podcasts this week?

Consumer Nutrition Responsibility

I recently answered some questions on a survey for the Canadian Government about Consumer Nutrition, Food Labelling, and what they can do to help.

The survey was poorly laid out for most consumers to actually answer; Questions were unclear and the survey was too long.  It likely cost us a lot of money to put on though, no doubt.

I thought I would share some of my answers which reflect my opinions on consumer nutrition responsibility and food labelling requirements.

Ron Paul on Jay Leno

This website is focused on Canada and how Canadians and our friends can increase their personal liberty.  In Canada, we have a lot of media influence coming up from the USA.  It is so bad, in fact, that many Canadians follow the US presidential election more closely that any Canadian Federal Election – and I think that’s a bad thing.

However, there is a lot you can learn from our friends to the south and I recommend you be on the lookout for these things.  Listening to Dr.Ron Paul speak is exactly one of these things.  He has the most level headed approach & ideas of any mainstream politician.

Here I would like to share the video of him of his appearance on Jay Leno’s The Tonight Show this past Friday 26/Sept/2013

Weekend Podcast Episodes

Podcast episodes that I recommend while you’re working or working out this weekend.

Some are new, some are from the archive – but all caught my eye for the weekend.  Get in all four, but aim for the six.

  • Chef Keith’s Harvest Eating Episode 176 – Charred Tomato Chipotle Salsa (Keith is behind on his show notes so you will just have to listen to it in iTunes).  If you are in iTunes and have time, check out episode 174 – Ideas for cooking with local fall Apples.  I loved the idea of charring your veggies for your salsa.  Warning these podcasts always make you hungry.  I have previously recommended that you subscribe to this podcast for all episodes.  But these two are important and timely enough for fall food preparation, that I want to specifically mention them here.
